Lossy settings can. Preview the output; raise bitrate if vocals lose air or instruments sound dull.

Long duration, surround channels, or an already efficient encode limits gains. Trimming length or lowering bitrate targets helps most.

Each lossy pass stacks damage. Prefer one pass from the best source you have.

Usually not—dense music needs more bitrate headroom than dry narration. Start conservative for mixes.
